Airline Transport Pilot license

Airline Transport Pilot License is a type of license that permits the holder to act as Pilot in command of the flight. It is the highest level of Aircraft Pilot certificate. To become Captain of an Airline, a pilot will need to have Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). In order to get ATPL, one must be at least 21 years of age, have a minimum of 1500 in total and must hold valid DGCA CPL and Class-1 Medical Assessment.  To obtain ATPL one must pass theoretical knowledge exams in the subjects of Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Air Regulation, Radio aids and Instruments and Oral (as applicable). ATPL is not issued on single engine aircraft.

Airline Transport Pilot License Eligibility

To obtain ATPL, the applicant should have a valid Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with multi-engine endorsement or a minimum of 1500 hours of flying experience of which at least 500 hours as Pilot-in-Command. The minimum age is 21 years of age for the issuance of Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).

The subjects that are covered in the syllabus for the issuance of Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) as per the DGCA requirements are as follows;

Medical Requirements

Commercial Pilots must have an existing valid medical certificate in order to fly an Airplane legally. This medical certificate is obtained through medical examination conducted by DGCA approved doctors only. To obtain an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) one must possess a valid Class-1 Medical Assessment.

Airline Transport Pilot License Flight Time Requirements

The applicant for an Airline Transport Pilot License should have a minimum of 1500 total hours of flight time, out of which at least 500 hours should be logged as least Pilot-in-Command.
